Manchester International Festival Line-up Revealed
And what a line-up it is! First off, we have Björk who will be performing a multi-media display called Biophilia. Damon Albarn will be exhibit a show involving magic, music and illusion about Dr John Dee, in collaboration with the English National Opera. Snoop Dogg will treat audiences to a performance of his album, Doggy Style, in its entirety and with all the original contributors, at the Manchester Apollo. Finally, Anthony (Anthony and the Johnsons) Hegarty and Willem Dafoe are to star in Marina Abramovitch’s arrangement, which will combine theatre, art and music from all over the world.
This will be the third occurrence of this event which aims to introduce new and original work to its audiences. The Manchester International Festival will feature specially commissioned work by artists in visual and performing art, music and popular culture. In 2009, the festival hosted world premieres by Prima Donna, Rufus Wainwright's debut opera; a contemporary music Kraftwerk and Steve Reich; theatre production It Felt Like a Kiss, by Adam Curtis and Punchdrunk, with music by Damon Albarn; Marina Abramovic Presents… and many, many more.
